What ABYSS Is
ABYSS is a one-touch arcade game about diving into a deep-sea trench and keeping your light alive. It has no accounts, no sign-up, no messaging, no advertising and no purchases.
Everything you see and hear is generated by the app on your device as you play.
What Igney Collects
Igney receives no personal data through ABYSS. The app contains no networking code of any kind — no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, no telemetry, and no server belonging to Igney that it could talk to. There is no Igney account to create and nothing for you to log in to.
Igney does receive personal data in one situation, and it has nothing to do with the app itself: if you write to us. See Support Correspondence below.
ABYSS uses two Apple services — iCloud and Game Center — which are described in their own sections. Data those services handle goes to Apple under your own Apple Account, not to Igney.
What the app does not contain
- No analytics SDKs.
- No advertising SDKs or ad networks.
- No crash-reporting or monitoring services.
- No third-party frameworks of any kind.
ABYSS is built only from Apple's own system frameworks: SwiftUI, UIKit, SpriteKit, AVFoundation, CoreHaptics, GameKit, WidgetKit, Foundation, Observation, Synchronization, simd, and os (Apple's on-device logging, used for a single diagnostic message when Game Center sign-in fails — it is written to the device's own log and is not sent anywhere).
The app requests no permissions. It does not ask for — and cannot access — your location, camera, microphone, photos, contacts, calendars, health data or motion data. It sends no notifications.
What Is Stored on Your Device
ABYSS saves a small amount of gameplay data on your device:
- Your deepest dive, in metres.
- The total plankton you have collected across all dives.
- Your sound and haptics settings.
- A short record for the home-screen widget: your deepest dive, your last dive's depth, the zone you reached, and when it was recorded.
That is the whole list. There is no profile, no identifier, no name and no contact detail among it, and none of it is sent to Igney.
iCloud
So that your record follows you between your own devices, ABYSS stores two numbers — your deepest dive and your total plankton — in Apple's iCloud key-value storage. They are kept in your iCloud account, under your Apple Account, and they sync to your other devices signed in to the same account. When two devices disagree, the deeper record wins, so a deeper dive is never overwritten by a shallower one.
Only those two numbers are stored this way. Igney operates no server that receives them and has no access to them through ABYSS.
You can stop this from happening by turning ABYSS off under iCloud in iOS Settings. The game continues to work; your record simply stays on the one device.
Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by your relationship with Apple and Apple's privacy policy, not by this one.
Game Center
ABYSS uses Apple's Game Center for its leaderboard and achievements.
Game Center sign-in is attempted automatically when the main menu appears — that is, on essentially every launch. There is no in-app switch for this in version 1.0. Your ways to prevent it are at the system level: decline the Game Center sign-in prompt when iOS shows it, or sign out of or restrict Game Center in iOS Settings.
When you are signed in, the app asks Game Center to record:
- Your deepest dive in a single run, submitted to the leaderboard.
- Your progress toward five achievements — reaching the Midnight zone, reaching the Hadal zone, surviving with no light, and two plankton-collection milestones.
This information goes to Apple, identified by your Game Center player identity. Igney runs no server, and ABYSS transmits nothing to Igney.
The ABYSS leaderboard is public. That means other Game Center players can see your Game Center alias listed next to your best depth. The alias is the one you chose in Game Center, which may or may not be your real name — that choice is yours and you can change it in iOS Settings. The leaderboard itself is administered through Apple's App Store Connect.
Declining Game Center costs you the leaderboard and achievements. It does not affect the game in any other way: every mode, zone and feature stays fully playable, and your deepest dive is still recorded on your device.
Game Center is Apple's service and Apple's processing. It is covered by Apple's privacy policy.
The Widget
The ABYSS home-screen and Lock Screen widget shows your deepest dive and your last dive. The app publishes that short record into a shared container on your device so the widget can read it.
This stays on your device. It crosses only from the app to its own widget, and nothing about it is transmitted anywhere.
Sharing
Igney does not sell, rent or trade personal data, and does not share it with anyone for their own purposes. There is no advertising network, no data broker, no partner and no analytics provider involved in ABYSS, because the app has no mechanism to send data to any of them.
The one third party that handles data on our behalf is the provider hosting our support mailbox, described under Support Correspondence.
ABYSS has no share sheet, no export and no link generator, so there is also no way for the app to pass your data to another app or person on your behalf.
The only third parties in the picture are Apple's iCloud and Game Center, described above, and they act under your Apple Account rather than for Igney.
Support Correspondence
If you email Igney — at privacy@igney.com or any other Igney address — we receive your email address, whatever you write in the message, and anything you choose to attach. People often include a device model or an iOS version when reporting a bug.
We use it for one purpose: reading your message and replying to it.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering people who contact us about our apps (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Where your message concerns something we owe you under an agreement, the basis is performance of that contract, Article 6(1)(b).
We do not add your address to a mailing list and we do not use it for marketing. Your message is stored by the email provider that hosts our mailbox, which handles it on our behalf and for no purpose of its own. We pass it to no one else.
Retention: support correspondence is kept while it remains useful for handling your enquiry and any related follow-up, and is deleted when it is no longer needed for that purpose. You can ask us to delete your correspondence at any time by writing to privacy@igney.com.
Keeping and Deleting Data
On your device. Deleting ABYSS removes the app's stored data from that device, including the widget's record. There is nothing else to clear.
In iCloud. Deleting the app does not necessarily remove the two synced numbers from your iCloud account, and reinstalling ABYSS may restore them from iCloud. To clear them, turn ABYSS off under iCloud in iOS Settings, or manage the app's iCloud data through your Apple Account.
In Game Center. Your leaderboard entry and achievements live with your Game Center account. Managing or resetting them is done through Game Center and Apple, not through ABYSS.
Support email. Covered in the section above.
Security
ABYSS relies on the protections built into iOS and on Apple's services for iCloud and Game Center. The data the app keeps is held in your device's own storage under those protections.
Children
ABYSS collects no personal data from anyone through the app, including children. It has no accounts, no messaging, no user-generated content, no advertising and no purchases.
Game Center has its own age requirements and can be restricted through Screen Time in iOS Settings. Parents who would rather their child's alias not appear on a public leaderboard can turn Game Center off there.
If you believe a child has sent personal data to Igney by writing to us, email privacy@igney.com and we will delete it.
Changes to This Policy
If ABYSS changes in a way that affects this policy, the policy is updated before or alongside that release, and the effective date at the top changes with it. The version this policy was audited against is stated at the top of the page, so you can tell whether it describes the build you have.

Legal basis for processing
Igney receives no personal data through ABYSS, so there is no app processing by us that requires a legal basis. The gameplay data described above is held on your own device and is under your control, and the data handled by iCloud and Game Center is processed by Apple under your Apple Account.
The processing Igney does carry out is support correspondence, on the basis of legitimate interests under Article 6(1)(f) — or performance of a contract under Article 6(1)(b) where that applies. See the Support Correspondence section.
Retention
Gameplay data stays on your device and in your iCloud account for as long as you keep it; Igney holds no copy. Support correspondence is kept while it remains useful for handling your enquiry and any related follow-up, and is deleted when it is no longer needed for that purpose.
International transfers
ABYSS itself transmits nothing to Igney, so the app creates no transfer.
Support correspondence sent to privacy@igney.com is handled by Simply.com A/S, Denmark, inside the EEA, under a signed Article 28 data processing agreement. No third-country transfer arises from contacting Igney, so there is no Article 13(1)(f) safeguard to name.
Data handled by Apple through iCloud and Game Center is covered by your own relationship with Apple, not by an Igney transfer.
Automated decision-making
Igney carries out no automated decision-making or profiling with legal or similarly significant effects. ABYSS scores your dives and unlocks achievements on your device, but that is a game keeping score: no decision about you follows from it, and Igney makes no automated decision about you at all.
Your rights
You have the following rights. Because Igney holds no personal data about you from the app, most of them resolve quickly — but they are real rights and we will answer any request.
- Access — you may ask what personal data we hold about you. Through ABYSS, none. If you have written to us, that correspondence.
- Rectification — you may ask us to correct inaccurate data. This applies to support correspondence; the app holds nothing for us to correct.
- Erasure — you may ask us to delete your data. The data on your device is deleted by deleting the app; support correspondence is deleted on request.
- Restriction — you may ask us to limit how we use your data while a question about it is resolved.
- Portability — you may ask for data you provided us in a portable form. Note that ABYSS has no export feature; this right concerns data Igney holds, which is support correspondence.
- Objection — because we rely on legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)) for support correspondence, you have the right under Article 21 to object to that processing. In practice that means asking us to stop handling and to delete your correspondence, which we will do unless we are required to keep it.
- Withdrawal of consent — where we ever rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. ABYSS does not currently rely on consent for anything.
Send any request to privacy@igney.com.
